New Season New Army
Apologies for the long break - work and some medical stuff have kept me busy for the past couple months. As the weather gets nicer outside we completely overhauled the patio so I’ve been spending a lot of time outside. Makes me think about getting a portable gaming table to play some outdoor games at some point.
I haven’t been idle hobby wise however! The printers have been running basically nonstop to complete my (somewhat random) new project - a Tomb Kings army for Old World! Some time ago I started an abortive project to get into Kings of War using Empire of Dust. I didn’t finish it for a variety of reasons but had a bunch of files laying around. After I completed my Wood Elves I got thinking about what to do next and found my way to the folder containing all the files I had for that failed effort (mostly from One Page Rules) and one brainwave later the slicer was open and files were traversing the digital ley lines to forge my very own skeleton empire into reality.

Tomb King - his chariot is compensating for something so he doesnt fit on the “correct” base - as always I choose “what looks good” over “what is GT legal”

The only thing left to finish are some skeleton chariots to ride with the Tomb King. Models are a mix of OPR and Highlands miniatures - the Highlands Minis really impressed me and I will definitely be purchasing other STLs from them. These were a delight to paint - I mostly used the Playmarkers I am so fond of with a few washes and a drybrush of Boney Bits from Army Painter to finish off the bone look.
Terrain Factory
I have also finally started painting the huge amount of terrain my FDM printer has been producing for me lately.

Painting terrain was intimidating for me until I remembered “literally just slop paint on it and do some light drybrushing and thats good enough”. It has a kind of satisfying speed to it and from tabletop distance the bright vibrant craft paints look really nice. I am working on a wood elf table for fantasy (treehouses, ruins, forests) and a denser “pyramid jungle ruins” layout for 40k first.
Random Closing Thoughts
Actually getting out to PLAY remains quite difficult. I’ve been distracted with other hobbies and have not found time on my calendar to organize a game. I am interested in playing some 4th edition 40k (the more I look a the new 11th edition stuff the more I just want to play 4th….) so maybe that will get started soon. Thanks for reading!
