T-Tanks
I’ve been laid up ill recently so haven’t gotten as much done as I would have liked. That being said, I did manage to get 10 T-62s finished as well as the T55 turrets done.

I quite like how the commander tank looks. I have 10 of these I can reach for now for Cold War games (or much later - the service life on this tank is insane). One of the things I did to pass the time while incapacitated with some awful viral sinus infection was to binge watch The Tank Museum’s videos - highly recommend if you read this blog. The video on the T55 was quite fascinating - doctrinally the Soviets never intended for these tanks to equal their NATO counterparts 1-1 - they were intended to be used for brief sharp periods of combat where ease of use (for the conscripts) and speed counted for more than direct long range anti tank combat power. You can check out that video here.

The T62 I think is my favorite of the Soviet cold war tanks. The big flat turret is just such an iconic look. Again the Tank Museum came through with a great video about the development of this tank. Its interesting how much the USSR and NATO mirrored each other with panic at seeing the other side’s tanks and “interim stopgap” designs like the M60 and the T62 being produced in mass numbers. I’m sure I will get around to doing some T72s eventually just to have the whole family.
Next up are some AA units for my Soviets then I will have enough to play a full game of Checkpoint Charlie. I have a few small rules modifications in mind (using 90 degree arcs for determining side shots first and foremost instead of the gamey 180). I’m hoping to have some time over my holiday break to try it out.
